Apartments, homes and vacation properties are where we can accumulate so much “necessary stuff.” Maintaining order can be tough when our lives are busy. Freshening up our space restores order and helps us manage the demands of daily life. From the smallest drawer or closet to the biggest challenge you face, I can help you on your journey.

I am Barbara O’Connell
I’ve always gotten a kick out of sorting through things, taking on challenges, and making life just a bit simpler. I’m a professional organizer who spent many years preparing for and winning civil court cases. I bring that same attention to detail and client focus to making order out of chaos in the places where we work and live.
I love having a day at the Jersey Shore to soak up the natural order of things: listening to the ocean’s ebb and flow, the calls of hungry seagulls, and children at play. That’s serenity to me. I try to bring that same feeling of order and balance to your space, too, by working side by side with you. And it’s why I launched Order In The House: to share what I love to do.

SORT
To get started and work efficiently simply focus on one category at a time, such as:
Tools
Crafts
Clothing
Housewares
Paper
Books
Games
PURGE
Before organizing, reduce what you have to make room for what you truly need or love.
To move through the process faster, place items into five piles or groups:
Donate
Sell
Throw away
Recycle
Keep
ORGANIZE
Organize by room first, then by category. If you try to take on everything at once, you may risk becoming overwhelmed and giving up. Instead, keep your focus narrow and manageable.
Organize by what typically belongs in a certain room or area, but also by what makes the most sense for the way you live and operate.
Place items you use every day in visible areas within reach, and stash away others you use less frequently.
